Imp And Petal Illustrator Application
Please fill out all fields honestly and to the best of your ability. This is not a popularity contest, nor will the qualifications I am looking for be necessarily be typical so please don't stress yourselves out trying to impress us! Remember, this is supposed to be fun! If it feels like a chore, this may not be the best opportunity for you.
Fun had by all
is a solid requirement for this potential collaboration. <3
Deadline for Applications is Monday, December 1st.
Website or other location for examples of your work:
What about this opportunity speaks to you? Can you tell us why you would like to work with Imp And Petal?
How long have you been in the illustration game?
Have you worked on many commissioned projects in the past?
If so, would you be willing to provide examples of your work along with the original request? Just looking to check out your translation skills!
How would you describe your style or aesthetic, and how do you think it would vibe with the Imp And Petal image?
What's your medium?
How long does it typically take you to go from an idea to a finalized piece?
Do you work well under pressure?
We're really looking for one or more artists that can start out simple, but eventually move into a comic style with ease. Is this something that interests you?
How comfortable are you with writing? Would you prefer to work alongside a writer, and if so do you have a specific one in mind?
Please outline your preferred compensation scenario. Would you like to be paid a flat amount per finished piece, or do you prefer working for trade, experience or exposure? How flexible are you, and in what areas are you willing to bend? Give us a good idea what you would expect to get out of this should we agree to work together!
Since we are looking for illustrations to assist us in marketing for a brand, usage rights and exclusivity will be factors in any work we do together. Knowing that we here at I&P are very dedicated to supporting our team and giving proper credit where it is due, are you comfortable with the possibility of relinquishing or signing contracting agreements for future licencing rights of any art you produce for us? (These things can of course be discussed at length later if needed)
Lastly, we're asking you to please
email us a sketch
which will fall into one of two categories, or, if you prefer, you may submit one for each. Pieces can be as finished as you like, that is all up to you.
The ultimate goal with either submission is to advertise for our December 24th release of custom dread extension listings.
This doesn't mean your drawings need to be anything special, just keep in mind they will need to be paired with the following informational text, even if it's only alongside your art:
What: Imp And Petal re-opening for custom orders
Date: December 24th 2014
Time: 12:00 noon Pacific Standard time
You are welcome to rephrase that any way you like and add it in yourself, or leave me with a blank space in which to take care of it.
As some of you know from previous conversations with me, we're looking to breathe a little more life into the characters of "Imp" and "Petal". I really love our long-standing logo girl, but I feel she is need of an upgrade and an artist that is willing to take her recognizable features, give them more of an edge, and give her character more depth and versatility. I'd like to see her a little less child-like and bright eyed, and a little more ready to stamp out intolerance with her big black boots, if you know what I mean. The current image is iconic as far as our business goes, so the real challenge here is keeping her recognizable. This will be the "main event" as far as applications go. If you want a shot at being our main go-to artist, you're going to want to submit into this category.
Category #2: Woodland Creatures.
We're also batting around the idea of having a few woodland friends joining the ranks at I&P. This is more of a "once the ball starts rolling" sort of thing, and ideally it would be great to have the same artist doing both, but we thought we'd just open the opportunity up a little and see what happens. These little critters should be loosely categorized in a "creepy-cute" genre, but we're definitely looking for something unique, so feel free to bend the rules a little!
Ideas to get you started (pick from any/use all of these or come up with something original, totally up to you): A bunny with a stitched up and/or constantly falling-out eye, A nerdy bat, Deer, Fox, Raccoon, Owl, Coyote, Skunk, Badger, Mouse, Squirrel, etc. etc. This will be a "back-burner" piece of the puzzle and probably not utilized right away, but I would like to nail it down sooner rather than later to provide ample brainstorming time!
I am definitely open for further discussion if anyone feels like they don't have a grasp on something inspirational yet, so don't hesitate to ask as many questions as you need to feel comfortable. I would also like to add submitted works to the facebook page, fully credited and linking back to your pages. If you are uncomfortable with this, simply mention this when you send your work in.
Thank you so much for your time, and good luck everyone!
